A total of 4033 new cars, buses and motorbikes were sold in April by the companies in the Union of the importers of automobiles in Bulgaria, the Union announced.

By comparison in April 2006 the number of vehicles sold was 3290.
A total of 15 789 new vehicles were sold by the members of the union during the period January - April which is an increase of 28.74 per cent against the respective period a year ago.

In the period the number of cars sold was 15 037 or 26.5 per cent more than last year. The actual number of cars sold in the country is even higher as some impoters are not members of the union and they submit their data separately.

According to the number of sales Toyota continues to be the most popular car. 1729 cars of the make were sold in the period which makes Toyota’s market share 11.50 per cent. The second most popular car is Ford of which 1552 were sold and the company’s market share is 10.32 per cent.

Peugeot ranks third with 1290 sales, followed by Volkswagen with 1184 sales, Opel with 1167 and Renaut with 1147 cars sold

During the first four months of the year 1029 Dacia automobiles were sold, 1 959 Skoda and 917 Sitroen. A total of 752 buses and trucks were sold during the period or 98 more than the same time last year. Of this number 16 are buses and the rest is trucks. The most popular make in this category is Mercedes – 319 sold, followed by Iveko – 195 and Volvo – 130 sold.

Motorbikes sales went up to 137 sold in the period January – April against 72 sold in the same period last year.
