BSE Market Capitalization Reaches 37.6% of GDP
The market capitalization of the companies traded on Bulgarian Stock Exchange-Sofia was nearly 18.5 bln leva on April 5 representing 37.6% of Bulgaria’s GDP in 2006. Meanwhile the value of the top 20 companies by market capitalization reached 12.93 bln leva or 70% of BSE’s total market cap.
According to preliminary operating data Bulgaria’s GDP reached 49.9 bln leva last year increasing 6.1% in real terms year-on-year.
Bulgarian Telecommunication Company (BTC) AD continues to be the company with the highest capitalization on BSE with 3.59 bln leva or 19.45% of the total. BTC’s stock has beeing gaining since January due to speculations abut the possible sale of the telecom.
Chimimport AD is another company with a 10-digit market cap of 1.33 bln leva, followed by Sopharma AD with 957 mln leva representing 5.18% of BSE’s total capitalization.
The next two positions in the list are occupied by Economic and Investment bank and Bulgarian American Credit Bank with 905.32 mln leva and 881.46 mln leva respectively.
Monbat AD is a newcomer in the list. Its market cap is over 188.5 mln leva. Eurohold Bulgaria is also a serious candidate for the top 20 with its current market capitalization of 172 mln leva.
