Nearly 65.8 per cent of Bulgarian families say they “ make both ends meet” when asked to describe their financial situation in a survey conducted by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Around 72 per cent of respondents say they consider the possibility of buying a car in the next two years as highly unlikely and more than 85 per cent say they are not planning on buying or building a home in the period. A little over 62 per cent think it is very unlikely to make improvements in their homes in the next 12 months.

35.6 % of respondents think prices have increased too much since last year. 45.3 % are pessimistic about prices next year and 50.8 % are not expecting a change in people’s financial situation.

Over 42 % said that the current economic situation is unfavorable for saving money and around 66% think that this is likely to be the case next year as well.

Respondents gave more positive answers when asked about the financial situation of households last year and about expectations for next year. The balance indexes on these questions are growing by 3.4 and 11.6 points respectively against results from the previous survey carried out in January.

Compared to the previous survey, opinions on the total value of the average household budget are improving (by 4.2 points). The number of respondents saying they were deeply in debt is decreasing by 2 %, those answering they were “ make both ends meet” is down 2.1 points while those who say they don’t manage to save much went up 3.7%.

Opinions about economic situation in the country are getting more positive both concerning the present period and expectations for the next 12 months.
