A 200-Berth ship will transport passengers between Svishtov and Romania’s Zimnich from 1 June, Svishtov port announced. Negotiations with Zimnich about lowering passenger ships fees have been completed successfully.

At a meeting yesterday between the mayor of Zimnich, Svishtov port and Svishtov municipality an agreement was reached to wipe out passenger fees between the two towns.

The new line will operate every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, twice a day, and the price of the ticket will be 5 euro in both directions. The ship will have three decks, a restaurant, a café and a big deck with chaise-lounges.

Currently the fee for passing through the Danube bridge is 7.5 euro a car in one direction. With the launching of the new line the passenger connection between Svishtov and Zimnich, which was traditional until the 1990s, will be restored.

The interest of Romanians in the fast, cheap and attractive means of passing the Danube river was also confirmed by the president of Teleorman region’s Commercial Chamber Marin Nikulcha.
